DreadQ movie discovery for scary, disturbing and unforgettable cinema

About DreadQ

Scary. Disturbing. Unforgettable.

Your Guide to Horror, Dread & Disturbing Cinema.

DreadQ was built for people who want to know more than whether a movie is simply “good.” Some movies scare you for two hours. Others get under your skin, make you uncomfortable, or keep you thinking long after the credits roll.

DreadQ helps you figure out what kind of experience a movie is going to give you before you press play. From supernatural horror and psychological thrillers to bleak dramas, disturbing crime films, brutal cult movies, body horror, slashers, found footage, and movies that are simply hard to forget, DreadQ is designed to help you find the films that hit differently.

What Is DreadQ?

DreadQ is a movie discovery platform focused on the darker side of cinema. Instead of treating every movie as just another title in a giant database, DreadQ looks at the characteristics that actually matter when you’re searching for something scary, disturbing, intense, graphic, bleak, psychologically unsettling, or unforgettable.

That can include psychological impact, dread, gore, violence, realism, bleakness, body horror, taboo subject matter, and how strongly a movie tends to linger with the viewer afterward. A movie does not have to be extremely graphic to belong on DreadQ; a slow-burning supernatural movie, a tense psychological thriller, or an unsettling drama can be just as memorable as an extreme horror film.

The goal is simple: help you understand what kind of movie you’re getting into.

The DreadQ Score

Every movie is different, and “disturbing” can mean very different things depending on the viewer. The DreadQ Score is designed to measure a movie’s overall level of disturbance and intensity.

A higher DreadQ Score may reflect stronger psychological material, dread, graphic content, bleakness, realism, violence, taboo themes, or other elements that can make a movie more difficult or intense to watch.

But the DreadQ Score is not a review score.

A movie with a DreadQ Score of 95 is not automatically a better movie than one with a score of 45. It simply means the first movie is likely to be a much more intense or disturbing experience.

How Good a Movie Is and How Disturbing It Is Are Not the Same Thing

Most movie sites combine everything into one rating. DreadQ doesn’t. A movie can be critically acclaimed and barely disturbing, while another can be extremely disturbing but not particularly well made. Some movies manage to be both excellent and deeply unsettling.

DreadQ separates those ideas because they answer two completely different questions:

  • Is this movie worth watching?
  • How intense is this going to be?

Knowing both gives you a much better idea of whether a movie is right for you.

What Kind of Movies Will You Find on DreadQ?

DreadQ isn’t limited to one narrow definition of horror. You’ll find movies spanning everything from mainstream scary movies to some of the darkest corners of cinema, including:

  • Horror, psychological horror, supernatural horror, slashers and found footage
  • Psychological thrillers, home-invasion movies and intense crime films
  • Body horror, gore, extreme horror and disturbing cult cinema
  • Bleak dramas, unsettling arthouse films and dark international movies
  • Paranormal stories, possession, demons, ghosts, creatures and monsters
  • Disturbing documentaries, war films and true-story-inspired movies when the subject matter fits DreadQ
  • Movies known for leaving viewers uncomfortable, shaken or thinking about them long afterward

The common thread isn’t simply genre. It’s impact.

Find Movies by What Matters to You

Maybe you want something terrifying but not graphic, psychological horror with very little gore, or the most disturbing movie you can find. Or maybe you just want to know what’s available on the streaming services you already use.

DreadQ is built to help you narrow things down using factors such as DreadQ Score, genre, release year, streaming service, psychological intensity, gore, violence, bleakness, realism, body horror and other disturbance characteristics.

Know Before You Watch

Sometimes a simple genre label isn’t enough. Calling a movie “Horror” doesn’t tell you whether it’s a supernatural ghost story, a brutal slasher, a psychological nightmare, or a graphic body-horror film.

DreadQ provides additional context wherever reliable information is available. That may include content warnings, disturbing themes, DreadQ categories, movie ratings, trailers, streaming availability and a spoiler-conscious explanation of what makes a movie disturbing.

The goal isn’t to spoil the movie. It’s to give you enough information to decide whether you actually want to watch it.

Where to Watch

Finding a movie shouldn’t require searching five different streaming apps. DreadQ brings streaming availability into the movie-discovery experience so you can see where a title may currently be available.

Availability can change by country, provider and time, so DreadQ periodically refreshes streaming information when updated data is available. Where supported, DreadQ may also provide direct links that help you get closer to the movie you’re looking for instead of sending you through unnecessary pages.

Content Warnings

Different viewers have different limits. For some people, gore is the issue. For others, it may be sexual violence, suicide, animal cruelty, abuse, disturbing imagery, extreme violence, or psychologically intense subject matter.

DreadQ surfaces content-warning information where reliable data is available so viewers can make more informed choices. Because warning data is not always complete, DreadQ does not claim that every movie contains a perfect or exhaustive list of potentially sensitive material. When information is uncertain, it should be treated as uncertain rather than presented as confirmed fact.

How DreadQ Uses AI

DreadQ may use artificial intelligence to assist with certain parts of movie analysis and editorial enrichment. That can include creating spoiler-conscious explanations of why a movie may be disturbing, helping categorize themes, and identifying areas where additional information may be useful.

AI does not determine the official DreadQ Score.

The DreadQ Score is calculated separately using DreadQ’s own scoring system. AI-generated information is designed to work from available movie evidence rather than inventing scenes, warnings or details that aren’t supported by the underlying data.

Our Data

DreadQ combines information from multiple sources to build a more useful movie-discovery experience. Movie titles, posters, release information and other catalog data may be provided through TMDb — The Movie Database.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

Streaming availability may be provided through third-party streaming-data services and may change over time. DreadQ is an independent website and is not owned, operated, endorsed or sponsored by the streaming services displayed throughout the site unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Streaming availability information provided by Streaming Availability API by Movie of the Night. TMDb supplies movie metadata and YouTube trailer candidates.

Why DreadQ Exists

There are already plenty of websites that can tell you who directed a movie, when it was released, or what its average rating is. DreadQ exists to answer a different set of questions:

  • How scary is it?
  • How disturbing is it?
  • How graphic is it?
  • Does it have gore?
  • What kind of disturbing content does it contain?
  • How psychologically intense is it?
  • Will it stay with me afterward?
  • Where can I actually watch it?

Some people want an easy movie night. Others want something darker—something unsettling, uncomfortable, or hard to forget.

That’s what DreadQ is for.
